This week, we unpacked the growing crisis of corruption, cronyism, and the influence of money in American politics. From the staggering sums being poured into elections to the normalization of graft and self-dealing, we explored how power increasingly appears concentrated in the hands of those with wealth, influence, and access.
We also discussed the shifting narratives surrounding the Iran conflict and ceasefire efforts, examining how moving goalposts and changing justifications can erode public trust and democratic accountability.
The conversation turned to concerns about attacks on institutions, history, and public memory—including controversies surrounding historical sites, the politicization of public symbols, and the efforts of this President to elevate himself above democratic norms and traditions and create his own legacy/mythology.
We examined the turmoil within mainstream media, including upheaval at 60 Minutes, high-profile departures, and broader questions about the future of independent journalism. As trusted news sources face increasing pressure, we discussed why access to reliable information remains essential for an informed electorate and a functioning democracy.
Throughout the discussion, one theme remained constant: democracy is not a spectator sport. Civic engagement—from staying informed and voting to speaking up in our communities—is the responsibility of all of us. In an era of misinformation, concentrated power, and public cynicism, active citizenship may be one of the most important tools we have to protect democratic institutions and hold leaders accountable.
